Unsupervised

About a month ago, I said I would blog about something I was unhappy about . . .
well here it is:

My oldest is old enough to babysit.  And she generally does a really great job.  But this happened one day when I ran to the grocery store.  While my two oldest were making cookies on the island, they didn't realize that behind their backs Henry and Jackie were proudly creating their own treat.

The picture doesn't quite do the mess justice.  Cocoa powder blanketed the floor,
honey dripped down the cabinets, and my favorite baking ingredients were depleted.
An entire box of Trader Joe's cocoa powder . . . GONE!

The Creation:  a mixture of cocoa powder, flour, sugar, milk, water, honey, cereal, popcorn kernels, peanut butter, overripe bananas, and who knows what else.

No one wanted to try the concoction.

I wasn't happy with this.  Believe me.

But after a month.  I can smile about it.

Next month will bring a chuckle.

Henry's Drawings

Henry chose this "cute little baby picture."
Today, for the first time in months, Henry (4) and I stayed home this morning.  After getting the older kids off to school, I read books to him and as is inevitable, nodded off.  As I drowsily tried to convince him to let me nap for a bit, I tried to redirect his attention from me by asking him to draw a picture of himself.  He didn't exactly follow my directions, but these are the pictures he came up with.

Ant:  "He's crawling into tunnels," says Henry.

Jellyfish:  "He's eating . . . I mean . . . stinging people," says Henry.

On the left, Spaceman.  On the right, Alien.
"The spaceman is killing that, because it's an alien," says Henry.
